Estate Vineyards
Steep Creek, Nelson, Home Vineyard, West Balch Ranch, The Raven
The Columbia Gorge is a dynamic wine growing region that resonates with elemental vitality, directing our farming and recreation moments and permeating all that happens here. We have searched for plant varieties that capture the magic of this energetic landscape. We have planted and farmed all of our Estate Vineyards using organic and biodynamic practices and philosophy since their inception.
Steep Creek Ranch is the vineyard adjacent to the winery, originally planted between 2001 and 2015. The grapes are grow on a southfacing slope of wind-deposited volcanic soils. It is a moderately warm site with significant night cooling due to strong winds and mountain air. Here, we grow Gamay Noir, Syrah, Mondeuse, Grenache and Furmint.
We have been farming the nearby Nelson Vineyard Syrah and Viognier since 2009. This vineyard is located directly to the south of our winery on the shores of the Columbia River. Situated on a peninsula jutting out into the Columbia River, this vineyard has our earliest bud-break and latest frost of any site we work with. Photosynthesis is inhibited by high winds, and the vineyard produces dark wines of low alcohol with a distinct savory aspect.
Our Home Vineyard was planted to Mondeuse in 2021. It sits on a wind swept bluff above the Columbia River and produces a vibrant wine with dynamic Gorge energy.
West Balch Ranch is on a neighboring property adjacent to the winery. We began farming this site at planting in 2017, and are thrilled to add this delectable Gruner Veltliner and Viognier to our estate wines.
The Raven is the newest estate vineyard, acquired in 2022. This is the warmest and steepest site, where we grow Grenache, Cab Franc, and Syrah.
