Following seven years of world travel, university study in New York City and Amsterdam, and love for wine, Poppie moved to Oregon from Provincetown, MA in 1997 to become involved in the farming and production of wine. She went on to work harvests at LaVelle, as well as vineyard labor at Benton Lane, and practiced Biodynamic farming at Wintergreen Farm, OR.

Originally from the Midwest, James graduated with a degree in Microbiology and Organic Chemistry before moving to Oregon to pursue wine making. First hired as a cellar master, James worked his way to winemaker of Custom Crush production, where he was exposed to a wide variety of wine making styles; from Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and Walla Walla Merlot to Northwest Sparkling wine.
Nicco is hands-on, both in the winery and vineyard, helping us with everything from picking grapes to getting the wine into bottles. He is a skilled musician and artist who has plans for art school in the future.
Naomi arrived with eyes wide open and has been a joyful, shining light on all of us. She plans to take over the wine making when she grows up.
Novella initially became interested in wine while attending UC Davis. After receiving her degree in Viticulture and Enology, Novella spent several years working in cellars in New Zealand, Australia, California and Oregon – including five years at Sea Smoke Cellars in Santa Barbara. She eventually decided to land in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge and she joined the Syncline team in 2016. When not in the cellar, Novella can be found hiking and chanterelle hunting with her husband Evan and their aussie Harley (he finds most of them) or else cooking up a storm in the kitchen to share with friends.
Wine Club Manager
Originally from the Midwest, Lauren moved to Oregon with a degree in design and a passion to make an impact. With an appreciation for simple living, relationships and adventure, the Columbia River Gorge was the perfect place to call home. Lauren will be exploring creative ideas for Syncline, planning upcoming events for club members and absorbing as much as she can about the wine industry. When not at work Lauren will be found with a camera in hand, or spending evenings on her deck in good company.
Tasting Room Supervisor
With a degree in Biology and a thesis on brewing and wine-making yeasts completed at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, Sarah came to Syncline for harvest 2016 seeking new experience outside of a traditional laboratory setting. She was quickly enamored by the wine-making process, and discovered a burgeoning love for all of the heavy lifting that goes into producing great wine. Sarah returned to Syncline in early 2017 excited to pour the wines and share the memories that inspired a new passion. When not in the tasting room, Sarah works as the Brewer for Freebridge Brewing in The Dalles, OR and can be found marketing homegrown oyster mushrooms at the farmer’s markets with her partner, Neil Brent, and their dog, Kaldi, for their Columbia Mushroom Company.
